Building Standards Leaders Forum and Scottish Building Standards Hub Dangerous Buildings Workshop
Delivery of In-person Events by Scottish Building Standards Hub (SBSH) – Save the Date
The Scottish Building Standards Hub is pleased to announce a series of four in-person events to be held over the next twelve months, these being possible through funding support received from Scottish Government Building Standards Division (BSD).
The first of these events will be over two consecutive days and will consist of the Building Standards Leaders Forum on the 3rd November 2026 at the Apex Grassmarket Hotel, 31-35 Grassmarket, Edinburgh EH11 2HS. (Heights Suite), with the Scottish Building Standards Hub Dangerous Buildings Workshop held on the 4th November 2026 at the same venue.
The Dangerous Buildings Workshop will focus on dealing with those chronic dangerous building cases, i.e. those vacant buildings that sit for decades, slowly deteriorating to the point they become dangerous. Whilst a significant portion of the session will be held in workshop format for discussion, we hope to also use the workshop to share some best practise which is happening across the country. If you have had a successful experience dealing with such cases, particularly where you or your team has done something innovative or worked collaboratively with other teams within your local authority, or even if you have had a situation that hasn’t worked but delivered some clear “lessons learned” we would love to hear from you in advance of the session with the hope of sharing some of your learnings with the wider profession. If you have details of any cases you would wish to share on the day please contact Russell Watson at russell.watson@fife.gov.uk.
We are currently finalising the plans for the other three events and will announce further details on these as soon as they are available. Event 2 is likely to be held around the 2nd or 3rd February 2027, Event 3 likely to be held on the 24th or 25th March 2027 with Event 4 being held around the start of June 2027.
We hope this advance notification of the Building Standards Leaders Forum and the Dangerous Buildings Workshop is of interest, and we look forward to receiving any input you may have regarding your dangerous buildings experiences.
